Join us for a rare and intimate evening with FALSA, a transcendent Sufi ensemble whose music is as emotionally stirring as it is spiritually resonant. Led by vocalist Umer Piracha, Falsa draws on the deep well of the Sufi tradition to create soundscapes that are dynamic, devotional, and utterly transportive. Their performances are known for evoking a powerful sense of longing, remembrance, and surrender.
Born from Piracha’s own return to his homeland of Multan, Pakistan, after nearly a decade away, Falsa’s music is rooted in the emotional texture of diaspora, spiritual searching, and the raw beauty of simply feeling. The band merges Qawwali vocals, Carnatic violin, Hindustani tabla, Bass VI, harmonium, and drums to create something both ancient and utterly new, a spiritual music that is deeply human.

About the band
The band’s name, Falsa, derives from a tropical berry native to India and Pakistan, symbolizing the Sufi concept of longing for union. Lead vocalist Umer Piracha embodies this theme through his personal journey. Separated from his homeland for a decade due to intricate immigration challenges, Umer’s eventual return was marked by a poignant realization. Tasting the falsa fruit once again broke through emotional barriers, revealing the realization that “home is something you cannot take with you; you have to return to it.”
This profound narrative is intricately woven into Falsa’s music, illuminating the magical aspects of experience that are gifts rather than acquisitions. In the world of Falsa, Sufi music isn’t just a genre—it’s a journey toward meaning and transcendence.
