ETHEREAL SHADOWS: A celebration of African artists

Gallery hours are Friday and Saturday 1 – 6 pm, and Sunday 1 – 5 pm

Join us for an insightful artist talk where the creative journey comes to life. The artists will be live on Zoom from Nigeria, and local artist Ikay Ekhaguere will be present. Each of the artists will delve into the inspiration behind their works, revealing the unique processes that shape their pieces. From the initial spark of an idea to the final brushstroke or medium choice, this conversation offers a behind-the-scenes look at how concepts are transformed into visual art. Whether exploring themes of belonging, displacement, emotion, or personal experience, the artists will share how these elements come together to form meaningful expressions on the canvas. The talk is free and open to the public.
Afterwards, a west African drum circle will be held at 4:30. This is also open to everyone, and will be a fun communal gathering to honor the creative spirit. Reserve your drum circle tickets here.
Ethereal Shadows offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the cutting-edge of Nigerian visual culture, encouraging deeper dialogue about the country’s role in shaping global contemporary art. Through this exhibition, we invite viewers to not only witness but also engage with the complexities of Nigerian society as expressed through the powerful lens of these 5 contemporary artists: Okereke, Amos Black, “Elysees” Elsie Okoyigwe, Astrowurld, and Ikay Ekhaguere.

OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS! Few days left!
The Space is proud to partner with local organization, FARAH – Foundation for Arab American Heritage – to host an exhibit for Arab and Arab-American artists. The open call is live until February 17 through this link on Show Submit. Accepted artists will be notified by the end of February, and the exhibit will run from March 24 – April 27. The month of April is Arab Heritage month so let’s celebrate the cultural richness of Arab art!
Max Ginsburg – An oil painting workshop & exhibition
This is a rare opportunity to study with a contemporary master realist. Max Ginsburg has a long legacy of teaching and a body of work that is highly sought after. The fact that he is a local Montclairian, and that he was my teacher in art school ages ago just makes it so extra special!
The workshop is June 2 – 6, and the exhibition of his work will be from May 16 – June 15.

The shop at the Space
Jewelry is art. And when its jewelry of a unique caliber it belongs in an art gallery. The Shop at the Space has an eclectic assortment of beautiful jewelry that you won’t find anywhere else. From fine gold jewelry, to sculptural fashion jewel and some vintage pieces thrown in, we have a variety of price points and options to choose from.
The jewelry shop is open during gallery hours, Friday – Sunday 11 – 6pm.
Mission Statement
The space is a forum for creative expansion and expression. We are an art gallery that holds art classes, open mic nights, artist talks, exhibit openings, healing circles, live music events, meditation and wellness events, and jewelry markets.
