Opening reception Friday May 16, from 5 – 8 pm
The Space Gallery is proud to launch its first solo exhibit for one of this era’s leading realist painters, Max Ginsburg. His work speaks to our humanity with honesty and heart. The exhibit will feature a selection of his important works along with more intimate portraits and demos that he has painted over the years.
Celebrated for his uncompromising realism and socially conscious themes, Ginsburg’s paintings resonate with a deep humanism and clarity rarely seen in contemporary art. Drawing on decades of experience as both a fine artist and educator, Ginsburg captures powerful narratives of everyday people, political struggle, and the raw beauty of urban life, all while conveying the subtlety of human emotion.
As a traditional realist, Ginsburg’s work was long considered unfashionable in an art world dominated by modern and conceptual movements. Yet now, at the age of 93, he is experiencing a powerful tide shift—a renewed appreciation for authenticity, empathy, and humanist expression. His work is more relevant than ever. Ginsburg is a humanist, not a sentimentalist, unafraid to confront provocative social issues head-on. He paints with a sense of urgency and moral clarity, voicing outrage over war, inequality, and the erosion of civil rights in America. Paintings that were created years ago remain hauntingly resonant in today’s social and political climate.
The opening reception will be held on Friday May 16 from 5 – 8 pm. It is free and open to the public, and RSVP is preferred although not necessary.
Max will be offering a painting demo and talk about his life and work on Thursday evening, May 22 from 7 – 9:30 pm. Whether you are an artist or not, this opportunity to watch Max paint from a live model will be a real treat. Registration for the painting demo and talk is available here. There is a $10 suggested donation for those who are able to support, otherwise it is free to attend.
There will also be a week-long painting workshop from June 2 – 6. This is a rare opportunity to study with Max up close and to dive deep into your craft. Details and registration for the workshop are available here.
