The Space for Music is back for the fall season!  If you’ve attended one of these events, you know that this is an intimate listening room experience, where the audience is in close conversation with the musicians.  This is co-creation at its finest!

XALAM + is a collective of veteran world and jazz musicians, featuring oudist, composer Brandon Terzic (Nubatones), Rufus Cappadocia (Vernon Reid, Ross Daley) on 5-string cello and fretless bajo quinto, and percussionist Matt Kilmer (Simone Shaheen, Reggie Watts).

Merging Terzic’s African ngoni, oud, and blues guitar background with Cappdocia’s trance groove cello, and Kilmer’s virtuosic frame drumming, the group creates a unique musical language of hypnotic grooves and original compositions.

Brandon Terzic

Brandon Terzic plays the Arabic Oud, Malian Ngoni, and Turkish Saz. He has spent time in Senegal, Morocco, and Egypt studying and absorbing their respective traditions, pulling them together to create a rich tapestry of sound which takes the incredible rhythms, tonalities, and improvisational systems of these traditions and inflects them on the bedrock of Blues, Rock, and downtown NYC jazz that the band’s members are rooted in. The Xalam Project is available for performance and workshops/master classes.

Accessibility: The Space is located on the second floor of a historic building, accessible via a flight of stairs. Unfortunately, the building ownsers have provided no elevator access at this time.
