Singing Circle

Last June solstice, about 30 local Montclair folks came together to sing, and we made magic happen!
We were all strangers for the most part, but through the use of our voices and the direction of the
highly talented musician Larissa Jaye, we filled the Space with unity and harmony. We all left feeling
connected, and like we were a part of something great – and we were! This was so fulfilling that we are
making it a monthly event.

Everyone is welcome to join us for this improvised vocal experience, and each gathering will be as
unique as its participants. If you are curious, come. You do not have to “know how to sing,” because as
humans, we all know how to sing already…no matter what other stories we carry with us. Through
Circle Singing, we get to lay those stories down. We get the opportunity to tap into remembering our
own voices as we express ourselves together and become part of a bigger whole. And while you will
always be encouraged to participate to your comfort level, know that you are also always welcome to
decide what that looks like for you. Our Circle is a safe, supportive, and inclusive space. We look
forward to making music together soon!

Circle Singing was made popular by Grammy-winning artist Bobby McFerrin. It invites participants to
create music together on the spot, layering harmonies, rhythms, and melodies without sheet music or
preparation. It’s about making music in the moment, connecting through sound, and feeling the joy of
spontaneous creation in community.
