Introduction to Figure Drawing | 4 week course with Riham ElSadany

Tuesday evenings June 17 – July 8, $120

Explore the fundamentals of figure drawing in this 4-week introductory course designed for beginners and those looking to strengthen their observational skills.

Meeting once a week, this class provides a comprehensive introduction to figure drawing, equipping you with the essential tools to translate the human form onto paper. We’ll focus on mastering proportion, capturing gesture, and understanding foundational anatomy, empowering you to draw with confidence and clarity through practical exercises and life drawing.

Each session includes guided instruction, demonstrations, and extended drawing time with a professional nude model. Through a series of structured exercises and personal exploration, students will develop a foundational understanding of how to draw the figure with confidence and accuracy.

Whether you’re picking up a pencil for the first time or returning to drawing after a break, this course will help you build essential skills and nurture your artistic eye.

No prior experience is necessary.

Bring the following materials (found at many art supply or craft stores):

  • 11 x 14 pad of drawing paper or whatever size you prefer
  • Ebony pencils or soft lead pencils HB or 2B
  • pencil sharpener or blade
  • regular eraser
  • kneaded eraser

About Riham ElSadany –

She is an artist whose profound engagement with the human condition is deeply rooted in her extensive academic background and keen philosophical and psychological interests. Born in Cairo, Egypt, ElSadany was immersed in the city’s rich history and art from a young age, earning a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. in Art Education. Her early artistic explorations, including multi-sensory installations, delved into memory, perception, and liminal spaces.
Relocating to the United States in 2017, she refined her technical precision at the New York Academy of Art. This rigorous training, combined with her academic pursuits, allows her to articulate complex ideas with compelling clarity on canvas and paper. Her current practice focuses on the evocative power of observation, capturing subjects—from the human form to historical objects—to reveal layered narratives of time and the interplay of internal and external realities. Now residing at the intersection of creativity and motherhood, ElSadany infuses her art with emotion and depth, drawing inspiration from everyday moments, particularly the innocence of a child, weaving these profound experiences into her captivating artistic tapestry.

This course will take place during the regular Tuesday open studio figure drawing sessions, so half the room will be for the drawing class and other half will be for the regular drop-in artists who want to work from the model on their own.
