Join us for a conversation with Lori Field about her process and inspiration behind the magical worlds and characters she effortlessly creates. Field creates “dreamy yet unsettling” narrative worlds populated by fantastical, hybrid beings. Her impossibly intricate mixed-media works, which often incorporate encaustic, colored pencil, collage, and thread, depict part-human, part-animal figures “adorned” with tattoos, lace, and symbolic baubles. These “angels with attitude” exist in a mythic demimonde, exploring themes of vulnerability, alienation, and transformation with a dark, fairy-tale allure.
She is prolific, and the Space is lucky to have nearly 100 of her works on hand for the current group exhibit entitled ‘Adorned’. Her work can be viewed up close and are all available for purchase. This will be a great opportunity to ask as many questions as you would like about her process, get to know her and the characters she creates, many of whom have distinct names and stories behind them. Come for this rare peek inside her world!
